Hello everybody! I fasted and here’s a part of my experience.
Fasting as a Latter-Day Saint Christian
Before I share more, I want to elaborate on what fasting is for me as a Latter-Day Saint Christian. Fasting starts with a prayer to our Father in Heaven in the beginning (and also closing your fast) of your offer of sacrifice - whether it be food, drink1, or in my case - various sorts of media.
My One Week Media Fast
By the time this publishes I would have finished my media fast, hehe. It was a challenging fast since I committed myself for seven days without certain music, shows, movies, and social media.2
I’m also going to tell you right now that it was definitely not a perfect process because there were times where I find myself unconsciously turning to media, and perhaps leading myself to doom-scrolling, lol - and then quickly turning back to my fast.
Points of Inspiration I Received During My Media Fast
Focus on the breath the Lord gave you
We can be sanctified in the workmanship of His Hands3
Repentance is giving our hearts to God
Nature is His, and He can change it—change who we are forever
Listen, study, hearken to the words of His Prophet
Study The Living Christ4
When we want to hear anyone’s voice we come closer to hear—it’s the same with God
Through His Atonement, you can be restored to your God who gave you breath5
With Christ, we can overcome ALL things
God’s love is ALL-GUIDING
…Write while we were yet in the Spirit6
The church is not a religion of perfectionism, but of redemption7
Focus on the direction of your becoming, dwell not on the calculation of your flaws (this one was one of my favorites!)
His Gospel is for us to feel His love, not shame
A Time to Ponder
Alma 7: 15
15 Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism.
Beset comes from an Old English word, besettan—meaning to put, place; own, keep; occupy, settle; cover, surround with, besiege.8
A question for you—
What are things that easily beset you in your every day living? Maybe it’s something subtle, or seemingly harmless “…that is no longer needful or no longer worth your time and energy?”9
An extra special media fast could be just what you need to find out, discover, become aware, and reconcile with Him again. You won’t regret it!
Sending my love to you and best wishes,
Jae 🌿✨
